Snowy Day

It snowed for most of the day today - it's still snowing now actually and it's supposed to snow until tomorrow afternoon. Fortunately we didn't really have many plans for today, just preschool. Grace got to bring her friend Kenny home for a play-date today. They had a great time together. I think he was a little out of his element since he didn't have all of his "boy" toys to play with, but they found lots of things to play and had fun.

She actually had a play-date at his house last week and they had a great time then too. I guess they are also the talk of preschool - the teachers have mentioned that they're pretty funny together. It was kind of funny today because he was playing with things he's never played with before I'm guessing and he was interested in trying them out but Grace has had them for a while and wasn't really interested in playing with them. So I had to try and guide her into playing with the things he wanted to play with. I suppose as they play together more that kind of stuff won't happen.

My Uncle was supposed to come over today and help with wiring the new recessed lights we're putting in but he got stuck at a job downtown and wasn't able to make it. Not wanting to make the whole day a wash I worked on finishing something I started some time ago (I know - big surprise I started something a long time ago and didn't finish it.) I worked on pulling low-voltage wires up into the attic from the distribution box. I pulled wires from here through the office and into the family room in a channel I cut into the ledge in the office and family room just before I built the bookcases in the office. So those wires are embedded in the ledge forever.

Now those were only part of the wiring scheme I had thought up to get the house completely wired behind the walls. The satellite cables coming from the roof end up going everywhere to get to the TV's in the house. I pulled all of those cables from the distribution box to the TV in the family room originally before building the bookcases. Now today I pulled those cables from the distribution box up into the attic right by where they come in from the satellite dishes. So now I should just be able to connect them in both places and have everything work like I wanted--behind the walls instead of being wrapped around the house and/or wrapped around the room.

So I got those cables pulled and then pulled a couple of Cat 5 network cables out to the garage so I can have both internet and telephone out there. I'll pull a video cable out there too just to even everything out (so that all of my options are covered.)

Alright, I've got to get some sleep.

Wow am I behind

Sorry to everyone that has been looking for updates. We've been busy and I just haven't taken the time to send anything out.

Where to start...December was a whirlwind. We had Christmas Eve at our house for Julie's family and then Christmas day at my Aunt's house for my side of the family. Then a few days later we had dinner at my Sister's new house. As predicted by Santa Grace didn't get her Butterscotch Pony from Toy's R Us. But she did get her two-wheeled scooter that she asked for as well as many other things. She wasn't upset about it but she didn't seem very excited about anything on Christmas morning except the scooter.

For new years we just rented some movies and had a family movie night that we're still doing once a week. I think Grace really enjoys it. But we've made it through most of her favorite movies already so it will be interesting to see what she picks out the next time.

I started a Yahoo group for our town - Hainesville. So I won't be posting any meeting minutes here anymore as I'm sure most people reading this blog don't have much interest unless they live in Hainesville. And if you live in Hainesville you can join the Yahoo group to get that information still.

Grace had gone to Chuck E Cheese for a birthday party for a friend from her preschool class and we went back a couple weeks ago with the stay-at-home-dad's group. She had the best time. I just wish that she would try/eat the pizza especially since that's all they serve there. The pizza really is pretty good. All of us dad's had a good time talking and it was a good time. It's fun for me to see Grace having so much fun. Now if I could only find a way to get her to clean the house with that much enthusiasm...

Speaking of the house, I got the ceiling down (drywall) in the family room last week. Then over the weekend I took most of the screws out that were holding the drywall up and then today my uncle came over and we hung all the lights and started doing the wiring but then he had to go. He's coming back on Thursday (barring any changes of course) to help me finish the wiring.

Also this weekend I bought, put together, and installed a cabinet for the laundry room/closet. Here's a picture:

It isn't the biggest cabinet as far as space on the inside since we converted the center cabinet into a hanging area, but it cleaned up the top of the dryer substantially and just makes the whole laundry area work better and look better. This cabinet is from Lowe's. We finally got one in the area here; it's only 10 minutes from our house! Yea! I was counting down the days. I can't wait for their Grand Opening in March.

I'll be interested in seeing how the Menards and Home Depot's traffic are affected by the Lowe's being here now. I know my business will be moving over to the Lowe's instead. I just love that place.

Alright, I'd better post this and get to bed. I'll be posting more regularly now...even though I still don't have a PC. I will have pictures of the recessed lights soon...
